Living Our Purpose: Making the Connection

The world is a small place and sometimes you see familiar faces from work or meet new people in the same industry. This has certainly been my experience with TREKK after relocating to Omaha and becoming involved with the local fencing community.

My training is primarily with Omaha KDF (Kunst des Fechtens), which follows the study and practice of German Longsword traditions. I train with the Musketeer Fencing Club, which follows French and Italian traditions of the foil, epee, smallsword and rapier, as shown in this photo from the recent Cornhusker State Games.

As I travel to competitions across the Midwest, I’ve had the opportunity to meet individuals from all walks of life. Coincidentally, one of those individuals is another TREKK employee, Warren Dingman, who also trains with the Musketeer Fencing Club. Small world!

Surprisingly the networking continued when I met and crossed swords with an Architectural BIM Designer with HDR. I believe that you learn a lot about another person when you fence them. You develop a connection on a whole different level. It’s always a pleasant surprise when you discover they are in the same line of work and makes the experience much more meaningful.
