K-10 and U.S. 40/6th Street Diverging Diamond Interchange

KDOT | Lawrence, Kansas

As West Lawrence continues to grow, KDOT is focusing several projects on safety and mobility around the South Lawrence Trafficway corridor. One of those projects is the $15 million improvement to convert the U.S. 40/6th Street and K-10 interchange into a diverging diamond interchange (DDI).

The TREKK team provided construction administration and inspection, project management and materials testing for this multi-phased project, the first of its kind in Lawrence. The project included significant utility adjustments and coordination, Stormwater Protection Plan (SWPPP) inspection, mass grading and excavation, storm sewer and new waterline, asphalt and concrete pavements, bridge deck rehabilitation and reconfiguration, approach pavement replacement, large culvert extensions, curb and gutter, sidewalk, seeding and sod.

The complex construction phasing required temporary signals and extensive detour signage, extending along the I-70/Kansas Turnpike corridor between Topeka and Lawrence.
