Overland Park Storm Drainage Improvements

City of Overland Park, Kansas

As its construction inspection partner, TREKK has helped the city of Overland Park deliver two recent projects to improve neighborhood storm drainage.

The first project, from 101st and Connell to Knox Drive, included the widening and deepening of approximately 1,100 linear feet of concrete channel with retaining walls and slope protection. It also included a cast-in-place reinforced box culvert, storm sewer and curb inlets and sanitary sewer interceptor, collector main and manholes. We also oversaw the reconstruction of approximately 800 linear feet of asphalt residential roadway along Connell Drive with concrete curb and gutter, sidewalks and ADA ramps, driveway replacements and property restoration.

A year later, the city began a similar project nearby, from Knox Drive to 99th Terrace. This project replaced the existing concrete ditch liner, which consisted of widening and deepening approximately 1,300 linear feet of existing channel and installing new rock retaining walls and concrete side slopes on the channels. It also included installation of larger reinforced concrete boxes under the pavement at each roadway to provide adequate drainage and storm sewer improvements to improve stormwater runoff.

TREKK provided daily on-site inspection and recording of construction progress. We worked closely with the contractors to successfully coordinate and relocate numerous area utilities. More importantly, we also served as the city’s liaison with neighborhood residents, working to keep residents apprised of the project’s progress and helping coordinate items like residential trash pickup, maintaining access and making sure children can get on and off the school bus safely each day.
