I-44 Corridor Bridge Bundle Design-Build

MoDOT Southwest District | Jasper, Lawrence, Greene, Webster & Dallas Counties

TREKK served as the Owner’s Engineer and provided construction inspection for MoDOT on this design-build project involving 25 bridge rehabilitations and replacements within 15 miles of I-44 across Southwest Missouri.

The goal was to deliver a safe project, within budget, while maximizing the number of locations to be addressed with quality structural rehabilitations and replacements. The project initially featured 33 bridges. At least 17 of the bridges were addressed as mandatory bridges and design-build teams proposed best-value solutions at the remaining 16 locations. Ultimately, 25 bridges were rehabilitated or replaced as part of the design-build effort.

As Owner’s Engineer, TREKK coordinated the completion of survey, bridge design and hydraulic analysis, geotechnical engineering, an Access Justification Report (AJR) update, maintenance of traffic, risk assessment, community outreach and Request for Proposals development.

All eight policy requirements were addressed in the updated AJR. Public involvement efforts included creating an inclusive public involvement plan, developing content for the website, leading meetings with stakeholders and responding to public inquiries.

As part of the services provided, TREKK performed baseline hydraulic analysis at several existing stream crossings.

The design-build project included seven mainline I-44 bridges and five I-44 overpass bridges. The remaining bridges were on adjacent routes over various features. Of the 16 bridges replaced, nine required significant rehabilitation work.

TREKK assisted with construction inspection of the new and rehabilitated steel girder bridges and box culvert replacements. Our tasks included daily work reports, quantity postings, materials testing and general inspection of all construction activities.
