Lee Boulevard Improvements, Somerset to 83rd Street

Lee Boulevard, between 83rd Street and Somerset Drive, is one of Leawood’s most recognizable and historic corridors, identified by its unique Y intersection at Somerset Drive. Leawood had been strategically improving sections of Lee Boulevard to address maintenance needs and provide multi-modal connectivity along the corridor.
TREKK provided roadway design and survey to widen the existing pavement and add on-street bike lanes and new sidewalks, providing multi-modal connectivity along the corridor. We designed the sidewalk to ensure that all trees along Lee Boulevard could remain in place, which was critically important to local residents.
The improvements included mill and overlay and full-depth pavement widening, the addition of ribbon curb, reconstructed driveway approaches, erosion and sediment control, pavement marking and signing. We solved several drainage problems with new underdrains, modifications to the existing storm sewer system and grading.
