US 77 Bridge over Mill Creek

KDOT | Riley County, Kansas

TREKK provided preliminary and final design to replace the existing bridge on US 77 over Mill Creek in Riley County, Kansas.

The project began with a mini-discovery phase report, which considered alignment alternatives, maintenance of traffic during construction, anticipated easements and right of way and utility relocations.

The original three-span structure crossed a FEMA Zone A floodplain. The type, size and location of the proposed structure was selected based on a geometric analysis of the bridge site, including an evaluation of hydraulic and scour considerations. The replacement bridge is a three-span reinforced concrete haunch slab structure that accommodates two, 12-foot lanes with 8-foot shoulders.

To minimize traffic impacts during construction, TREKK developed a temporary shoofly detour to carry traffic around the bridge while demolition and reconstruction occurred.
