63rd Street Corridor Project Development

Mid-America Regional Council/Kansas City Public Works Department | Kansas City, Missouri

Kansas City’s 63rd Street corridor is home to many businesses, which are challenged with limited parking and accessibility concerns for pedestrians. The Mid-America Regional Council (MARC) engaged a team to identify mobility and connectivity solutions at three centers of activity along this busy corridor.

The study analyzed the current conditions and patterns of all transportation modes, including public transit, automobiles, bicycles and pedestrians, to create a vision to provide a safe and connected transportation system as development continues and traffic patterns change in the corridor.

As a sub-consultant, TREKK provided traffic engineering services for the corridor study. TREKK conducted traffic data collection, existing capacity analysis, parking lot usage analysis, concept alternative development and anticipated capacity analysis of the proposed configurations.

We also assisted with the public engagement process. Our team held several meetings with stakeholders, including businesses in the area, prior to public open houses. This provided an opportunity to influence the study and voice individualized concerns. We also assisted with the public open houses and helped answer questions and gather feedback.
